West Lafayette was platted in 1850 by Robert Shaw and William Wheeler. It then consisted of 13 lots, eight north of Main Street and five south of Main Street. Today the village covers one square mile and contains some 10 miles of streets.
West Lafayette is home to one of the states top school districts in Ridgewood Local Schools, 301 South Oak Street, West Lafayette OH 43845. The mission at Ridgewood Local Schools is to provide each student with a comprehensive education to prepare them for the opportunities in an advancing global society.
